A valid rummy hand is grouped into sequences and sets. A pure sequence is three or more consecutive cards of the same suit with no joker. An impure sequence uses a printed joker to bridge one missing card. A set is three or four cards of the same rank across different suits.
To declare, you need at least one pure sequence, plus the rest of the 13 cards grouping into valid sequences or sets. Anything that does not group becomes deadwood, and deadwood is what the winner collects.

Strategy boundary
Where rules end and probability begins.
A rummy player needs two reading skills: knowing what the rules let them do, and knowing what the cards probabilistically let them do. We separate them deliberately so the boundary stays visible.
